Blogging started years ago as a way for people to connect with each other and share pictures, stories and experiences from their lives. Back then it was considered more of an "online journal" of sorts; and in some cases it still is today.
But over the years, blogs have evolved into marketing tools and become a way to make money online and offline.

Income through AdSense ads
Google offers a program called "AdSense" that allows online bloggers (and website owners) to earn revenue by displaying ads on their sites.
When you get accepted into the AdSense program, you can place these ads on your own blog, and every time a visitor to your site clicks on one of these ads, you'll earn a certain amount of money. The more clicks you get, the more money you earn. Now, the amount Google will pay you varies widely, but it's usually a few cents per click. Although it doesn't sound like much at first, you can tell how it can add up quite a bit depending on how many visitors your blog gets.
Product review
There are several websites online that will connect you with other companies that need people to review their products. This helps the company gain more visibility and you can also earn from it. Although there are often requirements for product reviews, such as the blog having to be around for a while and have a decent amount of visitors, you can still reap the benefits of doing product reviews if your site gets accepted.
Private sale of advertising
If your blog has been around for a while and you have decent traffic, you can advertise ad space for sale on your blog. The amount you would charge someone to advertise would of course be entirely up to you, but I would recommend checking out other blogs in your industry to see if they allow people to buy advertising on their sites. If so, how much do they charge and for what ad size? This is another way to make money from your blog.
Affiliate marketing
The term "affiliate marketing" covers a lot of areas that I know. But know that no matter what blog you run and no matter what you talk about, chances are there will be an affiliate program you can join to help you make money from your blog.
As an affiliate, you may want to consider the Amazon.com program. Amazon in particular can make you a decent amount of money simply because there are so many options available for you to market. You can advertise books in your niche, software, games, clothing, electronics and more.
